What if reality isn’t continuous?
What if everything around us — every object, every thought, every breath — is actually being created and destroyed every single moment, so quickly that our minds simply cannot detect it?
We naturally assume that the world moves smoothly through time. When we move our hand from point A to point B, it feels like a single uninterrupted motion.
But that may just be how our brain interprets it.
Another way to look at reality is through the idea of momentariness — the possibility that existence unfolds as a rapid sequence of tiny events rather than a continuous flow.
In this view, what we experience as motion or persistence might actually be a series of incredibly fast recreations of matter and energy.
Each moment replaces the previous one.
So quickly that our perception blends them together.
Just like a movie.
A film looks like continuous motion, but in reality it is just a sequence of individual frames flashing rapidly on a screen. Our mind stitches them together into a story.
Reality might be doing something similar.
The Idea of the Divine Particle
Some philosophical traditions describe the fundamental unit of existence as a divine particle — the smallest possible moment of reality.
This particle does not last forever. It appears for an instant and then dissolves.
Immediately after, another emerges.
And then another.
And another.
The universe may therefore be constantly rebuilding itself, moment by moment.
If that is true, then everything around us is always new.
We are not exactly the same person we were a moment ago.
Reality itself has already refreshed.
Science and the Language of Energy
Interestingly, modern science also hints at a similar perspective, though it uses different language.
Physics tells us that matter is not truly solid. At deeper levels, it behaves like waves and energy patterns. Particles appear, interact, and transform continuously.
In quantum physics, the universe is often described as a field of energy, where particles are temporary expressions of that field.
Everything — stars, planets, trees, and even our bodies — is made from the same fundamental ingredients.
Just arranged differently.
From this perspective, the universe is not a collection of separate objects. Instead, it is a dynamic system of constantly shifting energy patterns.
The Breath of the Universe
There is a beautiful metaphor that helps describe this idea.
Breathing.
We inhale.
We exhale.
Creation.
Dissolution.
Creation again.
If the universe operates through momentariness, then reality itself may follow a similar rhythm — a constant cycle of appearance and disappearance happening at unimaginable speed.
Birth and death would not just occur once in a lifetime.
They would be happening every moment.
A Universe That Is Deeply Connected
If everything emerges from the same fundamental source — the same absolute energy — then separation might be more of an illusion than we think.
The same underlying reality may be expressing itself as different forms across the universe.
Different people.
Different objects.
Different moments.
In that sense, we are not completely separate from the world around us.
We are part of the same unfolding process.
The same energy.
The same existence appearing in countless ways.
A New Beginning in Every Moment
Thinking about reality this way changes how we see life.
If the universe is recreated every moment, then every moment is also a new beginning.
Nothing is completely fixed.
Everything is part of a continuous process of transformation.
And somewhere beneath all the changes, all the forms, and all the motion, there may be a single underlying reality — the absolute source from which everything emerges.
Appearing.
Disappearing.
And appearing again.
